1st day: Pour 1 1/2 gallons boiling water mixed with 1 1/2 boxes plain salt over cucumbers.
2nd day: Drain off salted water and add 1 1/2 gallons boiling water with 1 box alum and pour over cucumbers.
3rd day: Drain off alum water and cover with just boiling water.
4th day: Drain off water. Boil 1 gallon vinegar with 4 tablespoon spices (tied in bag).
5th day: Drain off vinegar and cut cucumbers up. Put layers of cucumbers and layers of sugar alternately , ending with layer of sugar on top. Do this in a stone jar. After 6 weeks you leave in jar or put in your jars, and you don't have to seal them.
